Abstract	In Brazil, the police play a very important role in society, the function of the military and civil police is constantly being rethought. Crime has been on the rise, especially in large metropolises, because of drug and arms trafficking, as well as the existence of so-called organized crime. The Military Police, through its Battalions of Special Police Operations scattered throughout Brazil, and the Civil and Federal Police have gradually regained the trust of the population. According to the proposed theme the objective of the study is to present the importance of policing in all environments in Brazil. For this writing to be carried out, periodical books were used, researches in articles pertinent to the subject as well as empirical researches.
