| Abstract | The aim was to conduct an exploratory study of oral health indicators in the state of Minas Gerais, in the period 2005-2012. Therefore, we performed a descriptive ecological study, in which we proceeded to a regionalized mapping services oral health in the state and a descriptive analysis of oral health indicators of basic and specialized care, considering the expanded health regions of the state and its relationship with national data. The historical series of indicators were compared with the information on the siting of Oral Health Teams in the Family Health Strategy, the Dental Specialty Centers and Regional Laboratories existing Prosthodontics in the state. The main databases used were: Living Support to Strategic Management, Department of Primary Care Health Ministry; Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, and; Outpatient Information System of the Unified Health System (SIA- SUS). The results showed an increase in the values of oral health indicators of primary care at the state and national level, with a decline of indicator extraction procedures in relation to the state 45.9% and 14.6% in the country between 2008 and 2012. Regarding indicators of specialized care, increasing the number of specialized procedures (periodontal and endodontic ) was compatible with the expansion of the number of CEOs in the state of 115.4% and 181.0% in country between 2005 and 2012, however there was a decrease of biopsy procedures of the soft tissues of the mouth. Regarding the regions expanded health of Minas Gerais, the distribution of oral health services and analysis of indicators proved to be unequal between these regions. The study also showed that in most oral health indicators analyzed inconsistencies, expressed in sub-and/or supra-records, that interfered directly in the analysis of RAS were found in Minas Gerais. Moreover, it has not been possible to establish a continuous temporal analysis of the indicators over the period 2005-2012, due to the various changes taking place in the national instruments of agreement SUS, in relation to the calculation basis and/or selection of health indicators oral. We conclude that systems of health information, particularly SIA-SUS, and national instruments of agreement SUS showed limits regarding the analysis of oral health indicators in this study. Thus, it becomes essential to most studies focused on the definition and discussion of oral health indicators agreed in the country in order to contribute to the construction of consistent time series for monitoring and evaluation of the National Oral Health Policy. |
