| Abstract | English) Social perception training (SPT) is an intervention program with the purpose to enhance social competence and to prevent problem behavior in children and youth. The main purpose of SPT is to teach the participants how to code and interpret a social situation, and to know when to use the appropriate behavior, by teaching social skills, social performance and empathic understanding. To date there is no published research on the effect of SPT. Because of this the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of SPT, using pre – and posttest design with control group. Fifty–two pupils aged 9 to 12 years from Larvik and Mandal commune participated. The results indicated improvement of increased social skills in both SPT and control groups, but decrease in problem behavior was only found in the control group. We will discuss possible explanations for this, like “secondary” treatment diffusion and special treatment of controls. Still, the results indicated a general positive effect for the SPT course. |
