| Abstract | Power factor correction is a major topic of research since the first transportation and distribution of electric energy efforts succeeded. Traditional reactors solutions, usually capacitors, were implemented in almost all electric distribution grids and more complex solutions were developed for higher power applications ending in what now is called FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems). But in this new era of distributed generation and SmartGrids a better solution is required for any application at any power level, from consumer to industrial electronics products. This will allow each load to compensate its own power factor and harmonics generation, consuming from the grid active power only. There are many topologies to perform PFC (Power Factor Correction) algorithms with high efficiency and reliability. In this paper a simple 500W Single-Phase CCM Boost PFC is presented and analyzed, and the calculation process is explained in detail to allow designers to easily and quickly implement this feature in their circuits. |
