| Abstract | Para entender la evolucion de la Universidad Lovanium, es necesario conocer el marco general de implantacion en la que aquella institucion jugo un papel primordial. El principio de educacion superior y universitaria en la Republica Democratica del Congo, impulsado en sus origenes por iniciativas privadas, se fue construyendo sobre la promesa de estabilidad del sistema colonial y como un instrumento valioso en favor de su obra civilizadora, asi como un medio de aproximacion a las concepciones morales y sociales occidentales. Las esperanzas surgidas tras la independencia politica del pais, en cuanto al desarrollo de la universidad y la africanizacion de sus estructuras, se vieron pronto malogradas debido a la concepcion utilitarista de los poderes publicos respecto al papel de la universidad. Abstract : In order to understand the evolution of the Lovanium University, it is necessary to know the frame general implantation in which that institution played a fundamental role. The principle of superior and university education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, impelled in its origins by deprived initiatives, went constructing on the stability promise of the colonial system and as a valuable instrument of its work of civilization, as well as means of approach to western the moral and social conceptions. The hopes arisen after the political independence of the country, as far as the development of the university and the africanization of their structures, were seen soon spoiled due to the utilitarian conception of the powers public with respect to the university.
