Abstract	Changes taking place in the global economy, particularly the markets opening and new consumer requirements imposed to farmers the need to increase the efficiency in farm production and management. Based on this premise, the present studies aimed to identify the instruments used to control and analyze the economic performance of crop farms in Sao Gabriel do Oeste city, at Mato Grosso do Sul State, as well as to verify the importance given by farmers to the control function. Based on a survey that was filled up by a farmer sampling, it was found that there are producers who even know how to make any kind of control. Also, those who know how to do it, most of the time, they use these tools improperly, taking as consideration only some components of the total cost. In addition, many of them still do not use computer technology as a tool to help in their rural businesses. Although the proportion of producers who understands and practices the financial management in a proper way is reduced, there is a widespread perception about the effective important control to become ease the decision making.
