| Abstract | The research aimed to present aspects of teaching Cataloguing according to an analysis of curricula of librarianship courses offered in Brazil. It is a literature review with documentary character, since it is based on Brazilian Librarianship courses curricula and disciplines plans, and also, in the specialized literature about the librarian’s formation and the teaching of cataloging. The data collection about cataloging discipline of Brazilian Librarianship courses was based on the Register of Higher Education (e-MEC site), sent to the IES (Higher Education Institutions), which offer undergraduate courses in librarianship. Among the 38 institutions listed in the e-MEC, three did not offer the course, and two, although offering the course, did not present the data to be analyzed. The parameters analyzed were: administrative nature of the IES, geographic location, total hours of the courses, hours of theoretical and practical disciplines of cataloging, mandatory discipline, and syllabus. Regarding the syllabus, they were considered to identify the subject as belonging to cataloging and for the analysis of courses’ program, particularly with respect to special materials cataloging. With this study we could identify that the "attention" given to the cataloging discipline, in relation to the other components of the curriculum of librarianship undergraduate courses today, is preserved. Now it is time to reflect on its status quo, its future and prospects, by promoting a continuous improvement process, putting an end to any doubt about the importance of this discipline. |
