| Abstract | Information Systems (IS) programs are facing serious challenges. Some of them are external, therefore we can mostly react to them, while others are internal to our programs and consequently we can do a lot about them. Among the internal ones, we have the need to develop a wider set of skills in our graduates, ranging from functional knowledge to technical skills, without leaving out “soft skills”. We also need to change the educational strategies we have used for decades, reducing the emphasis on lecture and exercises and increasing the use of experiential learning models. Our contention is that an experiential learning model, like Project-Based Learning (PBL), when used as an educational and assessment strategy, makes an IS program more responsive to both student and industry needs, and also improve stakeholders’ perception about the program. |
