| Abstract | Providing object programming for smart cards comes up against difficulties related to performance. Indeed, object management overheads represent an important source of inefficiency in Java programs (such data structures, heap allocation, garbage collection, etc.). In current Java Cards, object programming is not encouraged since garbage collection of objects is not mandatory. However, in the context of next -generation Java Cards, we propose an optimization of applets that is performed inside the cards, before its execution, in order to optimize object management. This optimization is based on escape analysis techniques and is performed during the loading process by transforming standard Java bytecodes. More generally, this approach aims to demonstrate that embedded static optimizations of programs may constitute interesting techniques to implement efficient Java systems . |
