Automating the Creation of a Single Bookmarked PDF Document from Multiple SAS ® ASCII and PostScript ® Output Files

| Abstract | When creating files that contain multiple SAS outputs for QA, medical writers, clients, and regulatory agencies, it is helpful and sometimes required that the outputs are placed in to a userfriendly file format. One solution is to create a bookmarked PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Software. However, manually generating a PDF document from multiple SAS output files is a time consuming task. The time needed to manually create a bookmarked PDF document substantially increases with the number of SAS output files included. This paper presents an alternative method of creating a bookmarked PDF document. We have replaced the manual process by automating the compilation of multiple SAS outputs, and the creation of bookmarks to each SAS output. We will discuss the process of ordering and appending all SAS ASCII and PostScript output files into one cumulative file. In addition, we will describe a method to automatically create bookmarks within the PDF document. |
