| Abstract | In autumn 1998, the University Gynaecological Hospital and the University Paediatric Hospital in Mannheim began a prospective randomised trial involving pregnant women from week 20 of pregnancy onwards to investigate the influence of a form of communication training on birth and the mother-child relationship. All those admitted to the study were/are pregnant women over the age of 18 (para I), carrying only one fetus and with a good command of German. Women are excluded from the trial if they or their fetus have a serious illness, if delivery by caesarean section is planned or if the mother has a severe addiction disorder. In addition to psychological tests (IPC, IIP, GAS), a general, individual and familial history, social history and pregnancy history is taken. The communication training consists of meditation according to Raffai and acoustic (singing, listening to music), tactile (palpation, massage, games) and proprioceptive (dancing) communication. The results of the communication group are compared with the results of the control group in terms of the degree of difficulty of delivery, success in breast-feeding, the quality of the mother-child relationship and the psychomotoric development of the child at the age of 9 months. |
