Preistoria Alpina, 28: 275-284. In swiss alpine area, the distribution of mesolithic settlements suggests differential use of mountain territories: on the northern side of the Alps we observe occupation of Plateau lowland sites and middle mountain ones, while on the southem side the settlement system shows similarities with the Adige basin model. The intra-alpine area (Rhone and Rhine valleys) seems uninhabited. A more detailed study of two sites in the northem area presents at first a valley settlement where no archaeological evidence of mountain resources exploitation is documented and second a middle mountain campsite which is not a short-term hunting camp, nor the scene of specifie economical activities.
