| Abstract | There are a lot of research about biodiesel have been done, in order to get fuel biodiesel result in accordance with national standards of Indonesia (SNI). Constraints in the processing of vegetable oil especially Castor oil is because of high FFA levels, so it took a long time for the process. One of effort has been made in the research and development of alternative energy sources by using ultrasonic waves to shorten the reaction time. Beside of ultrasonic waves, cosolvent can also speed up the reaction time by changing two phases into single phase reaction. The purpose of the research is, to find out the physical characteristic and biodiesel content by using ultrasonic waves and addition of cosolvent. The method of this research is experimental with the testing of physical characteristic and Fatty Acid Metil Ester (FAME) content, triglyceride, diglycerides, and monoglycerids. The result showed the percentage of FAME is 96.2% at methanol-cosolvent ratio 1:1, while the ratio 2:1 the percentage is 92.8% at a volume of 200 ml. The percentage of triglycerides is 1.9% at cosolvent and methanol ratio 1:1, while at 2:1 ratio the percentage is 4.1%. The percentage of dyglycerides at ratio 1:1 is 1.1%, while at ratio 2:1 is 2.2%. The percentage of monoglycerides at ratio 1:1 is 0.8%, while at ratio 2:1 ratio is 0.9%. Physical characteristic of biodiesel by using ultrasonic waves and cosolvent produce gliserol (yield) reached 10.56% at ratio 1:1 and 10.64% at ratio 2:1. The characteristic result of biodiesel for density is 880.39 Kg/m3, viscosity 3.51 cst and 2.82 cst, the flash point 121.5 0 C and 121.95 0 C, and cetane index 6.51 and 65.7. Overall, the result of biodiesel process by using ultrasonic waves and cosolvent addition has fulfilled the Standard National Indonesia as it was in accordance with the parameter that has been determined by SNI |
