Abstract	espanolLos autores revisan en este texto la situacion de las politicas de datos abiertos en America Latina con el objetivo de identificar las dimensio- nes politicas y economicas a tener en cuenta para disenar este tipo de politicas. Inicialmente describen la vinculacion conceptual entre el derecho de acceso a la informacion publica y los datos abiertos, donde argumentan que la publicacion de datos publicos es parte intrinseca del ejercicio del derecho de acceso a la informacion. Al cabo de revisar las iniciativas de politicas de datos abiertos en diversos paises, con- cluyen que la tecnologia y el uso de datos abiertos seran condiciones necesarias, pero no suficientes, para superar los viejos desafios de gobernanza en la region EnglishIn this article, the authors discuss the state of the art of the open data policies development in Latin America, while trying to identify the politi- cal and economic dimensions to consider on the design of such policies. The authors describe the conceptual bond between the right to access to information held by governments and the open data, to address that open data is intrinsic to the exercise of the right to information. Once they revise the existing open data policies in the region, the authors con- clude that in order to overcome the old governance challenges of the Latin American countries, open government policies should be thought beyond the use of technologies and data bases development
