| Abstract | Ecuador has a strong agricultural orientation, due to the productive characteristics of its soil and the environment. According to collected data from the III National Agricultural Census 40% of the population living in the rural area, represents 62% are households of agricultural producers and live in the Units of Agricultural Production (UPA). This study analyzes the factors that affect the competitiveness of small agricultural enterprises in order to take actions and establish new alternatives and development activities that allow them to satisfy their needs. The study is based on the bibliographic review. The research is qualitative – quantitative based as descriptive, bibliographic, exploratory and working the stated. Fieldwork was carried out at the agricultural estates of the commune. “The Azucar” and the techniques used were the survey and interview, these techniques gave the guidelines to execute the activities that are proposed to benefit the sector. Among the factors that hinder competitiveness are: accessibility to credit, little access to technified irrigation, ignorance in the appropriate agricultural practices, among others, which are essential for the agricultural development of the farmers of the commune "El Azucar" |
