Abstract	espanolEl presente trabajo aborda el proceso de configuracion de la red de areas protegidas de la provincia de Cordoba hasta el momento actual. Se trata de un caso de estudio singular que, en realidad, permite entender lo acaecido en Espana desde los propios inicios de la politica protectora estatal. Con tal fin se estudian las principales iniciativas que se han sucedido desde comienzos de la pasada centuria, prestando una especial atencion al significado territorial de cada una y a sus fundamentos cientificos y tecnicos. Finalmente se analiza la extraordinaria expansion del territorio protegido en las ultimas decadas, que ha supuesto el reconocimiento social y, a la postre, la patrimonializacion de extensos ambitos provinciales otrora apenas conocidos y valorados. EnglishThis paper addresses the process of setting up the network of protected areas in the province of Cordoba (Spain) to date. It is a unique case study that actually allows us to understand what happened in Spain since the beginning of protective state policy themselves. For this purpose the main initiatives that have occurred since the beginning of the last century, paying special attention to territorial meaning of each and also their scientific and technical bases are studied. Finally, it pays particular attention to the extraordinary expansion of the protected areas in recent decades, which has led to social recognition and transformation of large territories, before undervalued, in natural heritage.
