| Abstract | Potassium is one of the main nutrients needed for agriculture. However, the low Brazilian production increases the cost of of food production due to the importations. Aiming to decrease the costs of production studies with rocks containing high amount of potassium has been developed. One of the analyzed rocks is the phonolite that contains about 73000 ppm of K2O in its composition, because of the presence of minerals nepheline, orthoclase and microcline that have K in their crystalline networks. Considering the 73000 ppm of K2O, only 6000 ppm are soluble. So, aiming to increase the amount of potassium soluble, calcination tests at 500 ° C for 30 and 60 minutes with the addition of CaO were developed. However, analyzing the results, it was possible to note that in the samples heated, the degree of potassium soluble decreased. It can be explained by the formation of new crystalline phases, as, sanidine, that is stable e contains K in it's composition. The formation of this phases, after calcination, is confirmed by the analyses of XRD and IR. |
