| Abstract | STOCK PRICES, EXCHANGE RATES, AND OIL PRICES: EVIDENCE FROM NET OIL-IMPORTING COUNTRIES By Nancy Chua Ko Sin This study examines the relationship between the stock prices, exchange rates and oil prices in four net oil-importing countries which is also the top four oil consuming countries in the world namely, United States, China, Japan and India. Using ARDL framework, the results show that the impact of oil prices bring about 0.6% negatively on the stock prices of Japan in the long-run, while significant impact in the case of' United States, China and India in the short-run. These findings support the Traditional and Portfolio theories. The slightly responsive to the changes in oil prices despite of their higher oil consumption is due to their strong economic markets in the world. Various policies have been recommended in this study. |
