| Abstract | The rocket is a crop grown in a protected environment, mainly in a hydroponic system, but its growth can be affected by the salinity of the water used. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of salinity of the irrigation water in the cultivation of rocket with different nutrient solutions and addition of KNO3 in the semi-hydroponic cultivation of crop with coconut fiber as substrate. The experiment was implanted and conducted in a protected environment located at UFERSA, in Mossoro, RN. A completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications was used. Each plot was represented by a PVC canal (1.5 x 0.1 x 0.1 m) filled with coconut fiber, and containing 30 plants of rocket, cv. Folha Larga. The treatments consisted of four nutrient solutions S1standard nutrient solution (2.3 dS m-1); S2 salinized nutrient solution (5.1 dS m-1); S3salinized nutrient solution (5.4 dS m-1) and enriched with KNO3 (50%); S4-salinized nutrient solution (5.9 dS m-1) enriched with KNO3 (100%)]. The standard solution used contained the nutrient concentration recommended for lettuce cultivation in NFT hydroponic system. The plants were collected 37 days after sowing and the following variables were analyzed: height, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh mass and dry mass of plants and leaf succulence. The use of saline water in the preparation of nutrient solution reduced most of the analyzed variables (except height). The enrichment of the saline nutrient solution with KNO3 in 100% dose mitigated the deleterious effect of salinity on the plants. |
