| Abstract | i <* The microwave spectra of thiete (H_C-CH=CH-S) and nine isotopically substituted species have been investigated from 8-55 GHz. Assignment of the first and second exeited State of tfhe ring pukkering Vibration established fche planar equilibrium.ring struc¬ ture. The vibrational frequency has .been determined to 325±30 cm The molecular structure has been-derived fr,om the moments of inertia of all isotopic species with c symmetry.,The measurements of the. Stark Splittings of three transitions yielded the components of the electric dipolemoment u = 1.399(2)0, mk = 0.276(22)D a d and u = 1.426(4)0, u being zero due to the/symmetry reasons. Very low pressure vapor phase pyrolysis (flash thermolysis) of four-membered ring Compounds was followed by microwave spectroscopic detection of the reaction products. The molecules studied: oxetane, thietane, azetidine, cyclobutanone, 3-thietanone, cyclobutanol, 3-thietanol, thiete, 3-thietanol acetate, thietan1,1-dioxide and 3-thietanol-l,1-dioxide. Microwave spectroscopy is well suited not only to observe stable reaction products but also to detect unstable species formed during pyrolysis. The investigation provided a wealth of Information on typical decomposition patterns during pyrolysis of four-membered ring Compounds. In addition, new methods were found for producing some unstable molecules with improved efficiency. Furthermore the microwave spectra of syn-vinyl alcohol and nine isotopically substituted species have been measured and analyzed between 12 and 40 GHz. The Compounds have been prepared by very low pressure pyrolysis of appropriately isotopically substituted species of cyclobutanol. The pyrolysis products have been pumped directly through the microwave Stark cell. Rotational constants and all quartic centrifugal distortion constants have been fitted to the measured transition frequencies. The complete Substitution structure of syn-vinyl alcohol has been determined from the raoments of inertia of all isotopic species. |
