| Abstract | Drug related problems (DRP) happen often in the society, affecting negatively the patient's quality of life, being considered a problem of public health. Objectives: To verify if the search for attendance in the emergency room (ER) of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA) is related with DRP. Methods: The research followed the model of a cross-sectional study. The instrument of collection of data was a structured quiz, which was filled out during the interview in the ER. A personalized analysis of the cases was carried out and the identified DRP were classified accordingly the 2 Granada’s Consensus. The suspicions of adverse reactions were classified in agreement with the Naranjo’s Algorythm. Results: From the 335 patients interviewd, 220 (65,7%) were women; with 45 yearold average; 257 (76,7%) white; 307 (91,6%) alphabetized; 155 (46,3%) with incomplete first degree and 318 (94,9%) were from the Porto Alegre metropolitan area. DRP had a frequency of 31,6%. The main types were the quantitative ineffectiveness with 30,9%, no-quantitative insecurity with 29,3%, and noquantitative ineffectiveness with 23,6%. The patients' risk to present some DRP with advanced age was of 1,49 (IC 95%=1,07-2,08) and for the polymedicated was of 1,85 (IC 95%=1,36-2,51). The main involved in DRP were those with action in the cardiovascular (24%) and nervous (17%) systems. Most of the patients with DRP (56,7%) were from the clinics of HCPA. Conclusions: The data show that a third of the patients looked for attendance in the HCPA ER due to DRP, reinforcing the importance of thinking in drugs as possible causers of health problems, and the need of making a more rational use of them. |
