| Abstract | In recent years, wireless communication systems have experienced tremendous growth, thanks largely to its ease of implementation and low cost. In addition, improvements in technology have made possible the increase in transmission speeds and the reliability of these systems to the point of being able to replace wired communication systems. On the other side, technologies such as ZigBee or Bluetooth 4.0 are able to establish communication between devices with low power consumption, which can make increase the battery life of these sensors until more than one year. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are having and will have an increasing importance in intelligent cities, allowing a fluid and dynamic traffic, security management and infinity of new features. This is why the implementation of a wireless sensor network for communication between traffic lights, traffic lights and moving vehicles or people terminals can provide great advantages and offer new services to both pedestrians and vehicles. |
