Abstract	This work aims at presenting Professor Nelson Onuchic ́s contributions to the development of Mathematics in Brazil, showing his achievement in the creation of Mathematics courses at Unesp – Rio Claro and at USP – São Carlos, his academic trajectory and his performance as a mathematician and also as an advisor with significant influence in the implementation, in our country, of a line of research in the area of differential equations. In this way we intend to contribute to the writing of the history of the development of Mathematics in Brazil, pointing out Professor Onuchic ́s participation in the process. To do so, we present Nelson Onuchic ́s biography, focusing his work as a professor and researcher, his relations with the education and research institutions where he worked, his academic production and the continuity of the line of research that he initiated. This study was based on documentary research and on interviews: the first ones carried through in the personal archives of Lourdes Onuchic and at the universities where Professor Onuchic worked; the interviews were carried through with his family, his students and other educators with whom he lived during his academic life.
