| Abstract | This article analyses the memory of women in Guatemala through the review of Latin-Americans authors and other researchers who have worked on memory as a concept, as a practice and as a construction. The article focuses on rural women -indigenous and peasant- who, while participating in organized spaces, are searching the threads to weave their memory, thus following their ancestors in the long history of women’s struggle and resistance. The main objective is to clarify the intersections between memory and citizenship, from the overlapping of the first, in the struggle for the identity and the construction of rural womanhood in Guatemala. With these ideas, the article tries to answer questions raised in other previous research such as how does the act of remembering constitute women? Does memory make women or do they make it? Finally, if women, particularly rural women, build their own memory, are they building (another) citizenship? |
