Chilhood Kidney Disease at Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen Province : A pilot study

| Abstract | Background and objective : Childhood kidney disease is an important public health in Thailand. The objectives of this descriptive study were to determine types of kidney disease according to pediatric nephrologist’ s diagnosis and health behaviors in pediatric patients with kidney disease at Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University. Methods : This cross - sectional study was conducted during January to August, 2013 at Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University. A total of 97 pediatric patients with kidney disease volunteered to participate in this study. Data were collected from medical records and questionnaires. Results : The average age of the pediatric patients with kidney disease was 11.5 ± 3.7 years old (4-17 years). Nephrotic syndrome was the major of kidney disease (34.0%) followed by systemic lupus erythematosus (33.0%). The majority of subjects were convenient to see a doctor for appointment (97.9%), took medication strictly according to the medical prescription (93.8%) and avoided consuming inappropriate foods for kidney disease (84.5%). Conclusion : Nephrotic syndrome was the major of kidney disease followed by systemic lupus erythematosus. Pediatric patients with kidney disease had appropriate behaviors for their health. |
