| Abstract | The purpose of this paper is to present similarities in survival descriptions of shipwrecked starring in the Americas, as well as the extreme thirst and hunger situations they had to suffer. Specifically, it will highlight the parallels between some fragments of the work Naufragios by of Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca (1542) with another work published previously: «Misfortunes and Shipwrecks» (1535), the fiftieth and final book of Historia General y Natural de las Indias by Gonzalo Fernandez de Oviedo, which lead us to question the originality and veracity of the work of Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca. _____________________________________ Solamente quiero decir o dar un aviso al letor contra la malicia de algunos historiales, que hablan en Indias sin verlas; y es que atienda el lector en dos cosas: la una desde donde escribe el que lo dice; e la otra que no debe dexar de considerar que hallara algunos pasos, que yo he escripto y essotros remiendan, mudando las palabras, porque parezca ques suyo lo cuentan, e van a dar de pies en lo que de 88 Lemir 17 (2013) Juan Francisco Maura mis tractados han hurtado; e tal ha avido que quassi a la letra en partes dice lo que yo he dicho...
