| Abstract | This paper describes a progressive scaffolding approach for the design of web-based learning systems, as well as the development and evaluation of a prototype system that covered web development. Three levels of scaffolding were used: text, graphics, and video. A usability analysis of students' performance with the system found: a) Students primarily relied on video and text scaffolds; b) Performance was positively related to time spent on text scaffolds and negatively related to time spent on video. c) Maximal performance occurred with students who used the scaffolds progressively and systematically. |
