Abstract	Applying theoretical frameworks developed in economics, sociology, political economy and exhibition and convention management, and through a comprehensive case study on the Ningbo International Fashion Festival, this thesis is a systematic research on the development of the festival industry in Ningbo, China. It provides an in-depth analysis on the process how festivals have given impetus to marketisation, optimisation of industrial structure, opening to the outside world and development of regional economy in Ningbo.
