| Abstract | To understand and to accept the difference would be, in our view, the solution to most of the problems that School and Humanity are facing today. Although, at present, with a society that tries to be more just and solidary, this reality has already been somehow changed, we still have the feeling that there is still much to be done to accept and help those who are somehow different. Schools currently receive pupils with Special Education Needs, with the objective to integrate and include them in this new social space, trying to adapt and prepare them for life and living in society, sharing their experience and value. It is then for schools and teachers to organize themselves in order to promote the best conditions to accommodate these students, trying to meet their needs, abilities and disabilities, educating for a know-how and creative participation of all of them and to achieve the person as an agent of change. With this work we want to study some aspects relating learning of children with Special Education Needs, apply some exercises and exercises sheets, to observe and record the responses of these students. It is also our goal to increase our knowledge on this subject and at the same time to better understand how we teachers can improve as individuals and as professionals, contributing to a better inclusion of all, especially children with special needs, because these are, undoubtedly, those who need us most. In order to try to achieve these objectives we organize our work as follows. The first chapter introduces the motivation, objectives, issues and the research methodology adopted throughout this work, plus a detailed characterization of the context and of the two children subject of this work, one mentally retarded and the other with cerebral palsy. In the second chapter we present this work’s background. We present a summary of how people with disabilities have been seen throughout history, and also a summary of the developments in the education of these people and in Special Education. The third chapter is dedicated to the review of issues involving people, particularly children, with cerebral palsy and mental retardation. We also present and discuss some educational considerations. |
