| Abstract | Origin comprised of two pictorical series (‘Born to Suffer’ and ‘If I Stay’ and a final piece that appeared in the collective exhibition Collectiu 33) and a written as a reflection. This work subjectively establishes a relationship between family ties and a fractured narrative on the passage of time. This work has emerged from my desire to understand my origins and search for my own poetic aesthetic. Focussing on the most tragic aspects of my grandmother’s life, it acts as an homage to the persistence of memory, specifically the memory of the project’s two protagonists. In which I depict the importance of our elders in a single image of clasped hands, symbolising serenity. The project has been primarily influenced 3 Origen. Pablo Vidal Gálvez by cinema, archive images, and family albums, as well as artists such as Gerhard Richter, Daniel Coves and Chema López. All of these influences have been invaluable while exploring and developing the project. |
