| Abstract | Since the opening of Eastern European Economies in 1989 Austria has invested quite heavily in those countries. This has lead to renewed interest within Austria in the impact of these investments on domestic exports and employment. This paper reports findings from a comprehensive data set as well as from a questionnaire. In contrast to most of other studies this paper analysed the relationship of foreign sales and domestic exports by sectors and for different periods. Results show that the relationship at an aggregate level is clearly positive. However, there are several manufacturing sectors which show strong and growing substitutive relationships.
