| Abstract | This strategy is framed against a range of new challenges that are facing higher education. The capacity of higher education has doubled over the past twenty years and will have to double again over the next twenty. Those entering the system now and in the future will have very diverse learning needs, and many will be ‘mature’ students. Higher education itself will need to innovate and develop if it is to provide flexible opportunities for larger and more diverse student cohorts. It will need to do this while simultaneously enhancing quality and relevance, and connecting better with the wider needs of society and the economy, while operating in a more competitive globalised environment. |
