| Abstract | Heron Lake is the most significant of 6 cascading lakes mainly supplied by urban stormwater. This 33Ha lake collects the stormwater of 1200Ha of Villeneuve d'Ascq urban areas (which is part of the “European Metropolis of Lille” city, northern France). This lake is not only supposed to remove part of the stormwater pollution, it is also a beautiful landscape where people can come for leisure activities. However, the poor quality of inputs leads to the eutrophication of the lakes waters, which is even more accurate in Heron Lake, as it is located downstream of the other lakes and has the longest residence time. It is characterized by algal blooms, mainly consisting of phytoplankton until 2011, and of macrophytes since then (especially dominated by Elodea Nuttallii). The study on Heron Lake aims at performing its diagnosis, at identifying the drivers of this functioning, and at proposing an action plan that will improve its water quality. This study has already enabled to highlight the impact of punctual stormwater inputs on the algal development and on the spatial evolution of the water quality. |
