| Abstract | E thylene polymerization catalysts ecame a aila le in an enormous ariety. he challenge in this research is to find catalysts t h a t a r e a b l e t o c o n n e c t e t h y l e n e m o l e c u l e s i n s u c h a w a y t h a t n o t o n l y l i n e a r c h a i n s a r e p r o d u c e d b u t v a r i a t i o n s l i k e b r a n c h e d materials that possess ery interesting mechanical properties li e linear lo density polyethylene ( P ). In this contri ution, three different types of catalysts are presented that are a le to do not only one o at a time ut three. hese are intelligent catalysts . atalysts of type 1 are homogeneous metallocene comple es that can e acti ated ith methylalumino ane ( ). ith ethylene they produce their o n support and they ecome heterogeneous catalysts (self immo ilization) and they pre ent fouling in polymerization reactors. he produced resin has e enly distri uted ethyl ranches ( ithout a comonomer) ith uni ue properties and the that is necessary in the acti ation step can e recycled. atalysts of type 2 are dinuclear comple es ith t o different acti e sites. ne centre can oligomerize ethylene and the other one can copolymerize the in statu nascendi produced oligomers ith ethylene to gi e ranched P (a molecule as the smallest reactor for P ) and or imodal resins. atalysts of type are acti ated iron di (imino) pyridine comple es that are a le to oligomerize ethylene to gi e not only oligomers ith e en num ered car on atoms ut also odd num ered ones.
