| Abstract | This paper introduces a novel method for simulating mosaics. The algorithm is based on growing tiles from points of existing tiles, utilizing an inscribing circle around several candidate points. Tiles generated are aligned with the feature lines provided by the user and packed tightly with existing tiles. Each tile shape can be randomized by changing the distance between the center of the tile and the vertices of the tile. The color of each tile is sampled from the input image. We also applied Renderman shaders to render tiles to create color variations within a single tile. Our application produced interesting results of mosaic like images from input images. A procedure for filling boundary regions are used to fill the spare space where the tile growth algorithm fails. However, this procedure causes tile overlapping at the boundary regions. A better algorithm to fix this problem will be developed in the future. ∗e-mail: hn1@umbc.edu |
