| Abstract | Juvenile inmates are criminal convicts serving prison lost independence in particular children. Teens who live in the prison environment will experience stress and negative emotions develop. This causes them to build negative views that being a teenager is pessimistic. Appropriate emotion regulation strategies are expected to assist inmates in developing adolescent emotions and more positive outlook. Furthermore also by applying the appropriate emotion regulation skills, inmates can become more optimistic in view of his future. This study aimed to determine the effect of emotion regulation skills training on increasing future optimism of juvenile inmates in Child Prisons Class IIA Kutoarjo. The research was carried out with the kind of quasi-or pseudo-experimental design. Subjects numbered 16 people consisting of 8 people as an experimental group and a control group of 8 people. Data collection using Future Optimism scale consisting of 20 aitem (α = 0, 862). Hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon method shows that p = 0.360 (p> 0,05). The research hypothesis is rejected, there is no significant effect between emotion regulation skills training with increased future optimism of juvenile inmates in Child Prisons Class IIA Kutoarjo. Scheier and Carver expressed optimism that the establishment of offending various events in the life of an individual. Emotion Regulation Skills Training is just taking aspects of the emotional effect on optimism about the future. Therefore, to further research on optimism should pay more attention to those aspects which are used in a more appropriate training can increase optimism for the future. In addition, it should be noted regarding optimism factors that must be controlled better. |
