| Abstract | The implementation of an educational policy for students with special educational needs associated with disability is certainly a complex, controversial and demanding issue both for teachers, students, their families and policy makers. Since 1985, such a policy has been deployed in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, although few students have been undertaken about the policy impact on the target population. In order to get a detailed know-ledge of the situation, the Child Ombudsman, who was very much concerned, requested the Instituto IDEA an evaluative study. This study was based on questionnaires and interviews with teachers, students -with or without special needs, advisors, public counselors and family counselors, both in ordinary and special schools. Results cast both light and shadow. Thus, together with a general positive attitude toward school integration there are some problems concerning some disabled secondary education students, problems that worsen when it comes to transition to and insertion in adult labor life |
