| Abstract | The paper outlines the analytical perspective followed by a research group at the Institute of Education, University of Lisbon on the study of educational policy the so called 'public action approach' -, and presents main research carried out by the group, since the beginning of this century, focusing the changing regulatory modes in education. In addition, the paper reflects on themes and issues that might be of interest for the creation and development of a research network in the field of political sociology of education and involving European and South-American researchers. Proposing a focus on the new ways of institutional regulation of education, the article suggests the reflection on two key dimensions of conflict and structuration on regulatory processes: the tension between different ways of interpreting the state's role (and between diverse modalities of state intervention); the tension between pressures for convergence in education (converge of policies, organizational forms and practices), and the specificities resulting from conditions and dynamics that are specific to national (or even regional) contexts. |
