| Abstract | In view of the rapid progress being made in multi-media applications based on broadband and mobile network technology, management applications will be driven by newer services. As discussed in this paper, there are a number of problems that need to be solved to achieve integrated management. These can be broadly categorised as: *Flexibility issues like management of a changing network environment and customization of management systems; *Real-Time issues like the control of services that require fast management response; *Usability issues relating to the quick introduction of new services and operation/maintenance thereof. There is some consensus that the approach to these problems would be to have an object library of reusable generic software objects. These objects would be easily manipulated through a graphical non-programming user interface. Expert systems and automatic programming tools are expected to become an integral part of an integrated management solution. |
