| Abstract | In this work, polypropylene/glass fiber/coir hybrid composites were prepared after a NaOH treatment of the fibers. The effect of the addition of coir fibers of different length and treated at distinct NaOH concentration on the performance of a commercial PP/20% glass composite was evaluated. Tensile and impact tests were carried out. The morphology of the fibers and the fiber/matrix interface were analyzed by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Although the addition of coir fiber to PP/glass fiber composites did not result on a significant increase on mechanical properties, stiffness and impact strength were improved. |
