| Abstract | We have introduced a very large scale campus-wide ATM network at Kyoto University in 1996. This network, called KUINS-II/ATM, consists of 260 ATM switches. These switches are connected with 1.8Gbps to 311Mbps high speed links. Wealready have a "legacy" campus LAN (built in 1987-1990) which provides Ethernet (lOMbps) and FDDI (lOOMbps) connectivity. This time we aimed to provide ATM (156Mbps) connectivity everywhere in the campus. These two networks should not be exclusive but complimentary. In this paper, we describe how we design and operate our campus ATM network. |
