| Abstract | The brown spots disease of date palm, Phœnix dactylifera L., initially described by Fawcett and Clotz (1932) under the name of Brown Blotch and frequently found in the areas of south Tunisia, establishes a great threat on the plant health state. The symptoms are observed on rachis and leaflets of palm sheets. The present study enabled us to assess the biological, ecological and epidemiological characteristics of the disease. It shows a very vast distribution in palm plantations of south Tunisia and a various infection at all stages of growth for the major date palm varieties. Furthermore, we have proven that this disease have a varietal susceptibility and closely depends on the relative humidity of soil type. |
