| Abstract | Introduction: a descriptive study of a series of cases was carried out from April 2010 to March 2011. The universe comprised 64 hospitalized patients in this period having pericoronaritis by inmovilized teeth. It is very frequent to have patients with this complication. Objective: this work was aimed at characterizing the behaviour of pericoronaritis as the third molars most common complication. Methods: a descriptive study of 64 hospitalized patients, descriptive statistics methods was used to determine age, sex, causal teeth, etiology and more frequent presentation of this illness. Results: the third lower molars were the more affected in 27 patients representing the 39,13%.The infectious origin was the most frequent etiology with the 76,56% in 49 patients, and the most common way of presentation was the congestive high pericoronaritis in 31 patients for a 48,43%. Conclusions: the pericoronaritis for retention of molar is frequent, mainly in women and young people in the consultations of urgencies of stomatology. |
