| Abstract | The onward march of new forms of natural resources exploitation in the Amazon and the competition with the modern products due to a major regional integration in the national market, drive the traditional small holders exploitation of forest resources, (i.g. Brazilian nuts and vegetal rubber), into crises. Therefore, the resulting growth of pressure on the natural resources puts the traditional ecological sustainability in danger. On the other hand, the emergence of new institutional arrangements, which involves local partnerships, learning processes and access to selected market niches, leads to the survival of communitarian enterprises. This work relies on two empirical studies that took place in the States of Acre and Rondonia, in North Brazil. |
