| Abstract | I embarked on a four-month API Fellowship 2010 project1 in Japan to answer the question: How relevant is “mindfulness” from Asian traditions in the modern world? To answer this, I searched the literature on the historical context and the theories and practices underlying mindfulness. Finally, I reviewed the modern applications of mindfulness. The paper was inspired by the pragmatic goal to contextualize the physiological research. |
