| Abstract | The Project of irrigation in Zapotillo will irrigate 10,000 hectares in a sub-deserted and tropical zone located in the province of Loja, a border zone between Ecuador and Peru, the canal passes through sloping zones that have scarce vegetation as a covering, which produces a big loss of soil generating transportation of sediments in the canal and landslides due to floods, that is why it is necessary to identify critical areas for the hydro erosion as the basis to implement plans for the management and protection that assure the total functioning of the work. In this activity we apply the reviewed universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) in combination with systems of geographic information (GIS). Being this an irrigation canal in a zone with a lack of meteorological information, it was introduced modifications in the general methodology of the RUSLE regarding determining the erosion level in the rain and the topographic factor LS. Palabras claves: RUSLE; perdida de suelo; erodabilidad; erosividad de la lluvia. |
