| Abstract | In the present test, we analyze three approaches to poverty that are important at different times. In the Christian communities of the first centuries, a perspective that represents a turn with respect to the ancient philosophy is enunciated. The new perspective implies the integration of communities in a project that transcends individual expectations. Here we examine some texts of Chistian thinkers that are the basis for the unity of the communities. This project ceased to be hegemonic after the events that gave rise to Anglo-Saxon thought. We analyze in particular the Second Treaty on the Civil Government of John Locke because is is a founding text in European liberal thought. We emphasize the possessive individualism , as well as the introduction of money into the mental experiment called the state of original nature as a relationships that increases inequality. The Lockean construction of secularism and methodological individualism has great relevance for the defense of human rights. However, it also represents a strong competitor with the Christian approach. Contemporary political liberalism is the third approach we study to analyze the concept of poverty. This liberal perspective is the foundation of public policies that fiht poverty. Although the measurements are exhaustiva, this way of limiting the problema does not integrate the knowledge of people living in poverty in the design of life policies that adders the root causes of poverty. |
