Desenvolvimento de um protocolo submáximo alternativo para a estimativa do VO

Abstract	The objective of this study was to develop a reliable and easy to apply test, to estimate the maximum oxygen uptake during the exercise, using a treadmill, with a fixed inclination, and alternative protocol results have strong correlation to Bruce’s submaximal protocol. The tests consisted of walking on a treadmill following the norms of (1) Bruce’s submaximal protocol and (2) the submaximal alternative protocol. The alternative protocol uses a permanent inclination (5%) and velocities of 2.55; 3.42 and 4.2 mph, in three different stages. 24 subjects were evaluated by the same evaluator in two different days. After statistical analysis, the results given by the submaximal alternative protocol indicated significative and satisfying correlation to Bruce’s protocol results.
