Abstract	The extension project Cost for Monitoring Food Basket was created aiming to spread prices behavior of the items that belong to the official food basket, defined in Brazilian Decree Law 399/1938, by daily collections of prices in 27 markets and farm markets in the cities (Ilheus and Itabuna), respecting the DIEESE’s methodology. Thus, the project along last 16 years up to now, has been including graduate students, improving their performance in the application of economy contents, besides that, it should also produce a suitable material for the community to discuss the purchasing power of the minimum salary.
