| Abstract | A recently developed Cartesian grid based immersed boundary method is used to simulate a variety of biological flows as well as flows associated with active flow control. The key feature of the method is that it allows us to simulate flows with complex moving boundaries on stationary Cartesian grids. In this paper we present a brief outline of the method and this is followed by simulation results of a number of flow configurations including human swimming, flapping foils, simulations of flow in a modeled human vocal tract and flow in a synthetic jet flow-control device. |
